- COMMON INCOTERMS -

EXW- Ex Works

All costs incurred during transportation are the responsibility of the importer.

 

Exporter: Responsible for properly packaging the goods so the importer can successfully arrange for pickup.

 

Importer: Bears all transportation, handling, and other costs from the point of pickup at the designated location until the goods are delivered to the final destination port/airport and then to the specified delivery address. This includes all customs clearance fees and relevant taxes.

FCA- Free Carrier

Exporter is responsible for delivering the goods to the agreed-upon location.

 

Exporter: Responsible for properly packaging the goods and covering the costs of transportation to the agreed-upon place of delivery (usually the export port or airport) and export customs clearance.
※ In practice, the exporter often does not cover the cost of export customs clearance under FCA terms.

 

Importer: Bears all transportation, handling, and other costs (excluding export customs clearance) from the specified place of delivery until the goods arrive at the final destination port/airport and are then transported to the designated delivery location. This includes all import customs clearance fees and relevant taxes.

FOB- Free On Board

The exporter is responsible for all costs and risks until the goods are loaded onto the vessel.

 

Exporter: Covers the costs of FCA plus the operational and storage fees at the port/airport of export.

The exporter is responsible for all transportation and handling costs from the moment the goods are packaged until they have passed the ship’s rail and are on board the vessel. (These costs are typically referred to as “local charges”).

 

Importer: Covers the freight costs and destination port charges.

The importer is responsible for all transportation and handling costs from the moment the goods are on board the vessel until they arrive at the final destination port/airport and are delivered to the specified location. This includes all import customs clearance fees and relevant taxes.

 

※ This trade term is primarily intended for waterway transportation, as the transfer of risk is defined by the goods “passing the ship’s rail.” However, in practice, importers and exporters also use this term for air freight. C&F/CFR- Cost And Freight

Importer: Covers the destination charges.
